A woman was arrested for attempting to steal alcohol from the Mustang Wal-Mart on Monday, Feb. 1.
“We got the call at 3:46 a.m. that an intoxicated person was trying to steal merchandise from the store,” Mustang Police Captain Willard James said. “When officers arrived at the scene, the assistant manager was there with the suspect and said she walked out of the store carrying cases of beer without paying for them.
James said the suspect was not caught by store employees, but by someone accompanying her.
“After she put the cases of beer into the back of a friend’s pickup truck, her friend came back into the store to inform the store what had happened,” he said. “She could not produce a receipt for the merchandise.”
Mustang Police arrested Sarah Jo Riggs, 23, for charges of Larceny of Retail Under $500, Public Intoxication. She also had two outstanding warrants.
Another larceny at Wal-Mart took place on Thursday, Jan. 28 in which several individuals took items from the electronics department, James said.
“We got the call at 2:57 p.m. and was told that some boxes were found open in the electronics department,” he said. “Surveillance footage showed two males removing items and putting them in a basket. They then left the store without paying for the items.”
Taken from the store included two Sony PS2 8MB memory cards, three Sony PS2 10MB memory cards and nine wireless Sony Dual Shock controllers. The total value of the items taken is $619.56.
“We were able to identify one juvenile from the video footage,” James said.
Hit-and-run accidents reported
Two incidents occurred last week in which parked vehicles were struck and the moving vehicles fled the scene.
“On Friday, Jan. 29 at 6:27 p.m. we got a call that someone had parked their car at Taco Bell and when the reporting person came back to her car she noticed damage to one her rear doors,” James said. “Damage to the door totaled $1,000.”
Another incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the 300 Block of E. Cedar Lane.
“The reporting person had his car parked at a friends house,” James said. “He noticed damage to his rear door and rear quarter panel. Damage totaled approximately $1,500.”
James said the snow and ice might have attributed to the incidents. Both incidents were attributed to as Leaving the Scene of Property Damage.
