Parents will have the opportunity to view HIV/AIDS Education materials at the upcoming Parent University, set for 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., Feb. 9 at Mustang Centennial Elementary. In addition to viewing the materials, parents will have the opportunity to hear the presentation from Mustang school nurses.

The Mustang Public School District offers the education to students in the sixth, seventh and tenth grades. The curriculum and other materials have been approved by the State Department of Education and the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

HIV/AIDS Education will be scheduled no sooner than 30 days after the parent meeting. Participation in HIV/AIDS Education is the decision of each child’s parent or guardian. No student shall be required to participate in HIV/AIDS prevention education if a parent or guardian objects in writing.

Parents who cannot attend the public meeting can call Debbie Beel, director of special services, at 376-7335 to make an appointment to view the materials.

Mustang Centennial Elementary is located at 700 S. Czech Hall Road. Five other sessions will also be offered at the Parent University including:  Bullying Preventions and Interventions for Parents, Understanding Your Child’s Anger, Drug Trends Facing Our Kids Today and Planning for Your Child’s Future.
