The field for the Canadian County District 3 commissioner’s seat narrowed from seven to two Tuesday after the primary election.
Republican Jack Stewart came out on top of five GOP candidates, and Democrat John Y. Morris defeated C.A. Wilkinson in the other primary race.
Stewart and Morris will meet in a special general election April 6 to determine who will serve the remainder of former Commissioner Grant Hedrick’s term, who was killed in a car accident last November.
The election results are unofficial until Friday at 5 p.m.
With all 18 precincts reporting plus absentee ballots, Stewart won the GOP bid with 55.4 percent of the vote. Stewart received 764 out of a total 1,379 votes cast.
Joshua C. Moore received 436 votes, or 31.6 percent, and Daniel Pugh received 95 votes, or 6.9 percent. Audre Knott received 58 votes, for 4.2 percent, and Ray Melvin received 26 votes, for 1.9 percent.
In the Democratic primary, Morris received 468 votes, or 79.5 percent of the total cast, and Wilkinson received 121 votes, or 20.5 percent of the total cast.
