The list of counties under a burn ban grew continue to grow on Monday, but Grady County isn’t one of them.
Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson told the county commissioners Monday morning that while the county has experienced dry conditions, a restriction on outdoor burning isn’t needed at this time.

“The county is pretty dry right now, but we’re not in the extreme drought like last year,” he said.

As of Wednesday morning, 23 counties have enacted a burn ban.

Thompson said the county has experienced few wildfires, not caused by fireworks. County crews responded to 20 calls on the Fourth of July, most of which were caused by careless use of fireworks.

“If you take away those July Fourth fireworks, our vegetation fires have been minimal and they’ve been controlled pretty quick,” Thompson said.

The commissioners took no action on the item at this time.

Grady County was placed under a burn ban for much of last year. Gov. Mary Fallin put the entire state under a burn ban in July. The county’s restriction was lifted in October.
